Is Christian anarchism incompatible with denominational church affiliation?

I wouldn't say so, but rather that the physical confines of a church building doesn't guarantee the faith of those within it. Many of those who I appeal to as examples of Christian anarchists - Vernard Eller, Karl Barth, Dorothy Day, Peter Maurin, John Wesley, Menno Simons, Stanley Hauerwas, etc. - certainly weren't or aren't against the importance of the church structure. I believe they would, however, say that the inward element of faith is prior to and more important than mere church attendance.

I effectively hold up the Protestant ideal: the voluntary congregation of the priesthood of all believers.

Agreed! Although my affiliation is as a Roman Catholic, I also affirm the “Protestant ideal”. Many thanks for your writing
